Earlier blockchains are known with the Proof of Work consensus algorithm. Examples of such blockchains include Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and other blockchains with their respective cryptocurrencies. Such blockchains require energy-intensive hardware and endless electricity fees to complete the mathematical computations associated with crypto mining.

Digiconomist estimated that the Bitcoin network is responsible for producing about 114 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. Ethereum mining on the other hand generates above 62.9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

However, surges above normal in atmospheric carbon dioxide are responsible for about two-thirds of the total energy imbalances leading to Earth’s temperature rise. Hence the need to prevent global warming can’t be overemphasized.

That’s where the DMD diamond blockchain comes into play — a blockchain that is committed to sustainability. It provides network users with an ecosystem with lightweight software and climate-friendly protocols.

DMD diamond blockchain does not require expensive hardware and endlessly payment of electricity bills. What it does is reward network participants that take part in securing the network with DMD Coin. This doesn’t only protect the environment (through reducing carbon footprint), but also significantly reduces energy consumption.

How is DMD Diamond Blockchain Climate-Friendly?

What distinguishes DMD diamond is that it operates on two consensus algorithms — HBBFT (Honey Badger Byzantine Fault Tolerant) and DPoS (Delegated Proof of Stake). HBBFT on DMDv4 offers immediate block finality, an unintended fork immune ecosystem, high throughput per second above already existing blockchains like Ethereum, increased security and network robustness.

The HBBFT algorithm bridged the gaps associated with the PoW (Proof of Work) algorithm — which requires higher computation power, and longer transaction confirmation time. Hence, the DMD diamond blockchain is sustainable and therefore environment-friendly.

DMD diamond uses POSDAO node election mechanic similar to the DPoS mining algorithm — that doesn’t require the endless cost of electricity to mine new blocks. Instead, only validator nodes are run. However, delegated stakers don’t need to run a constant node, hence saving a significant amount of power.
